About Flights to Dubai

Emirates flies direct to Dubai from eight UK airports: London Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted, plus Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh. British Airways plans to restart direct Heathrow flights on 3 November 2026. A direct flight from London to Dubai International Airport (DXB) takes around 7 hours.

One-stop flights via Doha, Bahrain or Istanbul are also available. They take longer, but they can sometimes cost less.

Your nearest airport matters. A cheap London fare may cost more once you add trains, parking and time. Most UK travellers can fly direct from close to home.

Flights to the Middle East were disrupted in 2026, and schedules can still change. Check your flight status and the latest GOV.UK travel advice before you travel.

Finding the Best Flights to Dubai from UK

The simplest route to Dubai is a direct Emirates flight from your nearest UK airport. It takes around 7 hours, with no change of plane.

Here is the quick picture:

  • Direct: Emirates from eight UK airports. British Airways from Heathrow, from 3 November 2026.

  • One-stop: Qatar Airways via Doha, Gulf Air via Bahrain and Turkish Airlines via Istanbul.

  • Nearby airports: Etihad flies to Abu Dhabi, and Air Arabia to Sharjah. Both are a drive from Dubai.

One-stop flights can make sense when direct fares are high. They also help when you want different flight times.

The cheapest headline fare is not always the cheapest trip. Check baggage, travel time and how you will get to the UK airport.

Which airlines offer the best direct connections from the UK?

Emirates has the widest direct network from the UK to Dubai. It flies from London and six regional airports.

British Airways is due to rejoin the route on 3 November 2026. It will start with one daily flight from Heathrow in winter, rising to two daily flights in summer 2027. BA has moved this date before, so check close to booking.

Virgin Atlantic is not currently flying to Dubai.

How far in advance should you book your flights to Dubai?

There is no fixed best time to book. For Christmas, New Year and February half-term, booking a few months ahead usually gives you more choice.

For quieter dates, fares move up and down. Compare over a few weeks before you commit.

Airline Breakdown: Direct Flights vs One-Stop Alternatives

Flying Emirates and British Airways

Emirates is the main direct airline from the UK to Dubai. It flies from eight UK airports and lands at Terminal 3, its own terminal at Dubai International.

That regional reach is Emirates' big advantage. Many travellers can fly direct without going to London. Economy fares usually include checked baggage. Business and First Class are available on all routes.

Dubai is also Emirates' hub. You can connect onwards to Asia, Africa and Australia on one ticket.

British Airways plans to resume direct Heathrow to Dubai flights on 3 November 2026. BA flights land at Terminal 1.

BA can suit travellers who collect Avios or prefer to fly from Heathrow Terminal 5. Fare and baggage rules depend on the ticket type. Because the restart date has changed before, check BA's website before booking.

The Indirect Advantage: Qatar Airways and Etihad

Qatar Airways flies to Dubai via Doha. It flies from London and several regional UK airports.

A connection adds a few hours. But it can give you different flight times, and sometimes a lower fare. It is worth comparing when direct fares are high.

Etihad flies to Abu Dhabi, not Dubai. Abu Dhabi is around 1 hour 30 minutes from Dubai by road.

Etihad can work if you are visiting both cities, or if the fare is much lower. Add the cost and time of the road transfer before you decide.

Other options include Gulf Air via Bahrain and Turkish Airlines via Istanbul. Air Arabia flies from Gatwick to Sharjah, around 30 to 45 minutes from central Dubai.

Baggage Allowance and Airfare Differences

Full-service airlines usually include checked baggage, but the allowance depends on the fare type. Lower fares may also have stricter change rules.

Always check:

  • the cabin bag allowance

  • checked baggage, by weight or number of bags

  • seat selection costs

  • change and refund rules

UK Regional Airport Hubs: Departing Outside London

You do not need to start in London to fly direct to Dubai. Emirates flies from six UK airports outside London.

A London fare may look cheaper at first. But you may then need:

  • a train or coach to London

  • airport parking

  • a hotel for an early flight

  • several extra hours of travel

Compare the total journey cost, not just the fare.

Manchester and Birmingham

Manchester has the most direct Dubai flights outside London. Emirates normally flies the route up to three times a day.

If you live in the North West, compare flights from Manchester to Dubai before deciding a London departure is worth it.

Birmingham also has direct Emirates flights. Midlands travellers can compare flights from Birmingham to Dubai and skip the trip south.

Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh

Emirates flies direct to Dubai from Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

For the North East, Newcastle to Dubai flights are the region's only year-round long-haul route. In Scotland, you can compare departures from both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Yorkshire has no direct Dubai flights. Most Yorkshire travellers fly from Manchester instead.

How Long Is the Flight from the UK to Dubai?

A direct flight from London to Dubai takes around 7 hours. Flights from Scotland and the North East take around 7 hours 15 minutes to 7 hours 30 minutes.

Newcastle, Glasgow or Edinburgh to Dubai

Around 7h 15m to 7h 30m

Flying time and total journey time are different. A one-stop trip may only have 7 or 8 hours in the air. The connection adds the rest.

Some routes may also be slightly longer while airspace restrictions remain in the region.

Dubai is 4 hours ahead of the UK in winter and 3 hours ahead in summer.

How to Find Cheap Flights to Dubai from the UK

Cheap flights to Dubai come from comparing airports, dates and fare types. These steps help.

  • Compare UK airports. With direct flights from eight airports, your nearest one may not be the cheapest.

  • Compare dates. Moving your trip by a few days can change the fare.

  • Try mid-week travel. Mid-week travel savings are possible on some dates, but not guaranteed.

  • Compare direct and one-stop fares. Check both before you decide.

  • Check baggage. A cheap fare without bags may cost more in the end.

  • Count the total journey cost. Include travel to the airport and parking.

  • Avoid peak dates where you can. Christmas and February half-term see peak winter sun price surges.

  • Compare return fares. On long-haul routes, return tickets are usually better value than two one-ways.

Late deals do appear outside school holidays. Our guide to last-minute flight deals explains when they are worth waiting for.

Comparing all of this takes time. TravelApp can compare Dubai flights across UK airports, airlines and dates for you.

When Are Flights to Dubai Cheapest?

Flights to Dubai are often cheaper in summer, from around June to August. Hotels are often cheaper too. The main reason is the heat, as daytime temperatures often go above 40°C.

Fares are usually highest:

  • over Christmas and New Year

  • during February half-term

  • at Easter

  • across the winter sun season, from November to March

UK school summer holidays can still push some summer fares up. Prices also depend on the airline, departure airport and how many seats are left.

Ramadan changes daily life in Dubai. It is expected around February to March 2027, so check the dates if your trip falls then.

Check Baggage Before You Book

The lowest advertised fare is not always the lowest final price.

Before booking, check:

  • Cabin baggage: size and weight rules vary by airline.

  • Checked baggage: most full-service fares include it, but allowances vary.

  • Fare type: cheaper fares may have strict change rules.

  • Seat selection: some fares charge to choose seats, including seats together.

  • Change rules: flexible fares matter more while schedules can change.

Check our guide to hand luggage rules for UK airlines, then confirm the rules on your airline's website.

Dubai International Airport (DXB) vs Al Maktoum International (DWC)

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is Dubai's main international airport. Almost all flights from the UK land there.

DXB is close to the city, around 15 to 20 minutes by car from Downtown Dubai. Emirates uses Terminal 3. British Airways and most other airlines use Terminal 1.

Al Maktoum International (DWC) is a second Dubai airport in the south of the city, near Jebel Ali. It handles fewer passenger airlines and is much further from Downtown and Deira.

Always check the airport code on your booking. Make sure it says DXB if you are staying in central Dubai. For airport updates, see Dubai Airports.

Getting from Dubai Airport to the City

Most UK travellers reach their hotel in 20 to 40 minutes from DXB. Travel time depends on where you are staying, traffic and the time you land.

  • Dubai Metro: The Red Line runs from Terminals 1 and 3 to Downtown, Bur Dubai and Dubai Marina. It is the cheapest option.

  • Taxi: Taxi ranks are outside arrivals. Ride-hailing apps are also available.

  • Private transfer: Useful for families, late arrivals or heavy bags. Transfers can be included in a holiday package.

  • Car hire: Available at the airport, but most visitors do not need a car in the city.

Things to Check Before Booking Your Flight to Dubai

Time zone

Dubai uses Gulf Standard Time (GST), which is four hours ahead of the UK during British Summer Time and three hours ahead during the UK winter.

Currency

The UAE dirham (AED) is the local currency. Cards and contactless payments are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, shops and transport, although carrying some cash can be useful for smaller purchases and tips.

Language

Arabic is the official language of the UAE, while English is widely spoken across Dubai. Travellers booking flights to Dubai from the UK should have little difficulty communicating in hotels, restaurants, shops and tourist areas.

Transportation

Dubai has an extensive metro, tram and bus network, as well as taxis and private transfers. Dubai International Airport (DXB) is close to the main city areas, while Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) is farther south. Allow extra time for road travel during busy periods.

Weather

Dubai has a hot desert climate, with very hot summers and warm winters. The cooler months from roughly November to March are popular with visitors, while summer temperatures can be extremely high. Check the Dubai weather before choosing your travel dates, particularly if you plan to spend time outdoors.

Baggage allowances

Baggage rules depend on the airline, fare type and cabin you book. Check both cabin and checked baggage allowances before comparing flights to Dubai from the UK, as a lower fare may include less baggage or charge separately for extras.

Pre-booking options

Seat selection, checked baggage, airport transfers, travel insurance and other extras may be available when booking. Compare the total flight and holiday cost with the extras you actually need rather than comparing the basic airfare alone.

Airport and flight options

Most UK flights to Dubai arrive at Dubai International Airport (DXB), the main international airport serving the city. When comparing flights from the UK, check the departure airport, airline, arrival terminal, flight time, baggage allowance and transfer to your hotel.

Schedule flexibility

Checking nearby travel dates and different UK departure airports can give you more flight and holiday options. This is particularly useful around Christmas, New Year, UK school holidays and major events, when demand and fares can be higher.

Entry requirements

British citizens can usually visit the UAE without arranging a visa in advance and may receive a visa on arrival for eligible stays. Passport validity and other entry conditions apply, and requirements can change. Confirm the latest information with GOV.UK before departure.
