Edinburgh Airport has announced a £500m investment programme to expand its terminal and improve passenger facilities over the next five years.
The project will increase the airport's terminal footprint by 60% and includes new gates and aircraft stands, a larger check-in hall and departure lounge, plus expanded food and retail areas.
The airport says the investment will increase capacity and help support new short-haul and long-haul routes, potentially giving travellers more choice when flying from Scotland.
The first phase, the South East Pier expansion, is expected to open in summer 2027. Further improvements will follow across the airport campus, including additional electric vehicle infrastructure and a new access road.
Edinburgh Airport is Scotland's busiest airport, handling around 17 million passengers in 2025. It currently serves more than 160 destinations with 39 airlines, connecting Scotland with the UK, Europe, the USA, the Middle East and other international destinations.
Airport chief executive Gordon Dewar described the project as the biggest investment in Edinburgh Airport's history, aimed at creating the capacity and facilities needed for future growth.
For travellers, the expansion could mean improved facilities and potentially greater flight choice from Edinburgh as additional capacity becomes available. Edinburgh Airport has outlined further details in its £500m expansion plans.
