Passport applications in the Isle of Man are set to move online next winter, in a major change to how residents apply for passports.
The new digital service is expected to be introduced during winter 2026/27 and will be accessed through the Isle of Man Government website. It will use a system operated by His Majesty's Passport Office, which already processes millions of UK passport applications.
The change will reduce the cost of applying online. Online applications will cost £102, compared with the current £115.50 for a paper application, including postage.
However, the move will also see the five-day Express passport service withdrawn once the online system launches. Anyone who needs a passport urgently will therefore need to allow more time for their application.
Paper applications will continue to be available for people who cannot use the online service. Additional support will also be provided, including assistance at public workspaces in Douglas.
The Isle of Man is introducing the online system alongside Guernsey and Jersey, which are also expected to make similar changes.
People whose passports are approaching expiry are being encouraged to apply well in advance, particularly if they may need their documents for upcoming international travel.
