Thailand has officially reduced the visa-free stay available to UK travellers from 60 days to 30 days, with the new rules taking effect on 15 September 2026.
British citizens travelling to Thailand for tourism can now stay for up to 30 days without a visa under the country's visa exemption scheme. The change replaces the 60-day exemption introduced in 2024. The latest GOV.UK Thailand entry requirements confirm the new 30-day limit.
The change mainly affects travellers planning longer holidays. A typical two- or three-week trip remains within the new 30-day allowance, but anyone planning to stay longer will need to check the appropriate visa or extension options before travelling.
Eligible travellers may be able to request a one-time extension of up to 30 additional days, subject to approval by Thai immigration authorities.
There is also a new restriction on visa-exempt land-border entries, which are generally limited to twice per calendar year. This does not create a general two-entry limit for travellers arriving by air.
Travellers who entered Thailand before 15 September 2026 retain the period of stay granted to them when they entered.
If your Thailand holiday is under 30 days, the change should have little effect. For longer stays, check the latest requirements before booking flights and accommodation.
