About Flights to Phuket

From 18 October 2026, Virgin Atlantic flies direct from London Heathrow to Phuket International Airport (HKT) three times a week during the winter season. TUI also runs seasonal direct flights from London Gatwick. For most dates and UK airports, the main option is a one-stop flight via Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Singapore or Istanbul.

A direct flight takes around 12 hours. One-stop journeys usually take 15 to 20 hours, depending on the connection.

Direct fares are not always the cheapest. One-stop flights often give you more dates, more UK airports and more ways to save. The right choice depends on where you live, when you travel and how much time you have.

Finding the Best UK to Phuket Flight

For most UK travellers, the best route to Phuket is a one-stop flight through a Gulf hub. Direct flights from London are the fastest option in winter, but only run on certain days.

Here is the quick check:

  • Fastest: Virgin Atlantic direct from Heathrow, from October 2026, winter only, three times a week.

  • Holiday option: TUI direct from Gatwick, mainly sold with package holidays in winter.

  • Most flexible: Emirates via Dubai, Qatar Airways via Doha or Etihad via Abu Dhabi. These fly daily and connect from several UK airports.

  • Alternative hubs: Singapore Airlines via Singapore, Turkish Airlines via Istanbul and Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong.

London has the most choice. Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh also have good one-stop options, so many travellers do not need to go to London first.

The cheapest ticket is not always the best value. A long layover, missing baggage or a late-night arrival can add cost and stress.

Which airlines offer the best connections from the UK?

Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad offer the widest one-stop choice from the UK to Phuket. They connect from London and several regional airports. Qatar Airways is increasing Doha to Phuket to three flights a day from 25 October 2026.

Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines are strong alternatives. They can work well if Gulf fares are high or the timings suit you better.

How far in advance should you book your flights to Phuket?

There is no single best booking window. For Christmas, New Year and February half-term, booking several months ahead usually gives you more choice. For quieter dates, compare fares over a few weeks before booking.

Phuket's peak season runs through the UK winter. Seats on direct flights and popular one-stop routes can sell quickly in December and January.

Comparing several airlines, hubs and dates takes time. TravelApp can compare UK to Phuket flights around your dates and budget, so you can see the options side by side.

Airline Routes from the UK to Phuket

Virgin Atlantic

Virgin Atlantic launches direct flights from London Heathrow to Phuket on 18 October 2026. The route runs three times a week during the winter season, on a Boeing 787-9.

It is the fastest way to reach Phuket from the UK. Outbound flights leave in the evening and arrive the next day. The trade-off is limited days and winter-only operation.

TUI

TUI runs seasonal direct flights to Phuket, mainly from London Gatwick. TUI has added an extra weekly Gatwick flight for winter 2026/27.

Most TUI seats are sold with package holidays, but flight-only seats are often available. Flights run on set days. Check the dates before planning your trip.

Emirates

Emirates connects to Phuket through Dubai from eight UK airports. These are Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

This makes Emirates one of the best options outside London. Economy fares usually include checked baggage. It suits travellers who want to fly from their nearest airport.

Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways flies to Phuket via Doha, with three daily Doha to Phuket flights from 25 October 2026.

Qatar Airways flies to Doha from several UK airports, including London and Manchester. More flights to Phuket means more connection times to choose from. It suits travellers who want flexible timings.

Etihad Airways

Etihad flies to Phuket via Abu Dhabi. Its main UK departure points are London Heathrow and Manchester.

Etihad can be a good fare to compare against Emirates and Qatar Airways. Check the connection time in Abu Dhabi, as it varies by date.

British Airways

British Airways does not fly direct to Phuket. It flies from London Gatwick to Bangkok. From there, you need a separate domestic flight to Phuket.

This can work if you want time in Bangkok first. If you are going straight to Phuket, a one-stop flight via the Gulf is usually simpler.

Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines flies to Phuket via Singapore, from London and Manchester.

It is a useful alternative when Gulf fares are high. Singapore Changi is a comfortable airport for a connection. Total journey times are usually a little longer than via the Gulf.

Other Relevant One-Stop Airlines

  • Turkish Airlines flies via Istanbul from London and several regional UK airports.

  • Cathay Pacific flies via Hong Kong from London and Manchester. This route is longer, so it suits travellers adding Hong Kong to their trip.

  • Thai Airways flies from London to Bangkok, with onward flights to Phuket.

The Premium One-Stop Flights to Phuket

Most UK travellers reach Phuket with one stop. One-stop routes give you more dates, more UK airports and more fare choices than direct flights.

Middle Eastern Connections

Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi are the main hubs for UK to Phuket flights. They sit roughly halfway, so the two flights are similar lengths.

  • Dubai (Emirates): The widest choice of UK airports.

  • Doha (Qatar Airways): Three daily Phuket flights from late October 2026.

  • Abu Dhabi (Etihad): A useful fare to compare from London and Manchester.

Gulf flights were disrupted earlier in 2026 because of the regional conflict. Services have resumed, but schedules can still change at short notice. Check GOV.UK travel advice for the country you will connect through, and consider flexible fares.

Asian Transit Options

Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok give you alternatives to the Gulf. These routes avoid Middle East airspace. They can also suit travellers adding a stopover city.

Connecting in Bangkok usually means changing to a domestic flight. If the flights are on separate tickets, a delay on the first flight may not be covered.

Budget-Friendly Connecting Routes

A lower base fare does not always mean a cheaper trip. Some cheaper routes have long layovers, two stops or no checked baggage.

Indirect flight savings are real on some dates. But once you add bags, seats or a hotel for a long layover, the saving can disappear. Compare the full cost before you book.

Flying to Phuket from UK Regional Airports

You can reach Phuket with one stop from most large UK airports. Starting closer to home can save time and the cost of getting to London.

Manchester and Birmingham

Manchester has the widest regional choice. Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad, Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines and Cathay Pacific all connect from Manchester. TUI has also run seasonal direct flights from Manchester. Check current dates.

Birmingham has one-stop options with Emirates, Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines. Compare flights from Manchester and flights from Birmingham.

Glasgow and Edinburgh

Emirates connects to Phuket from both Glasgow and Edinburgh via Dubai. Edinburgh also has Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines. See flights from Glasgow and flights from Edinburgh.

Other UK Departure Airports

Newcastle and London Stansted also have Emirates connections via Dubai. From other airports, you may need two stops or a connection via London or Amsterdam.

When London still makes sense: The direct Virgin Atlantic flight only runs from Heathrow. If saving five or six hours matters, the trip to London may be worth it. Compare flights from London with your local airport.

How Long Is the Flight from the UK to Phuket?

The flight time depends on your departure airport and whether you fly direct. A direct flight from London to Phuket takes around 12 hours. One-stop flights via Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi usually take 15 to 20 hours in total, depending on the connection.

There is a difference between flight time and total journey time:

  • Flight time is the time you spend in the air.

  • Total journey time includes your connection at the hub airport.

On a one-stop route, the two flights add up to around 13 to 14 hours. A short connection keeps the total journey near 15 hours. A long layover can push it past 20 hours.

Phuket is 7 hours ahead of the UK in winter and 6 hours ahead in summer. Most outbound flights arrive the next day.

How to Find Cheap Flights to Phuket from the UK

The cheapest flight to Phuket depends on your dates, airport and baggage. These steps can help you find better value.

Compare Several UK Airports

London is not always cheapest. Regional fares can be lower once you add train and parking costs.

Compare Several Dates

Moving your trip by a few days can change the price.

Check One-Stop Options

Different hubs can give very different fares on the same date.

Try Mid-Week Travel

Mid-week departures are sometimes cheaper, but not always.

Compare Baggage-Inclusive Totals

A cheap fare without bags may cost more in the end.

Watch School Holiday Dates

Christmas and February half-term are usually the most expensive.

Compare Return and One-Way Fares

Return tickets are usually better value on long-haul routes, but check both.

Do Not Take the First Low Fare

Compare at least two or three airlines before you decide.

Late deals do appear outside peak season. Our guide to last-minute flight deals explains when they are worth waiting for.

This comparing is where TravelApp helps most. Send the team your dates, airports and baggage needs. They will compare airlines and routes for you.

When Are Flights to Phuket Most Expensive?

Flights to Phuket are usually most expensive over Christmas, New Year and UK school holidays. These dates fall in Phuket's high season, when demand from the UK and Europe is strongest.

  • High season, November to April: Dry, sunny weather on the Andaman coast. Fares are highest, especially in December and January.

  • Shoulder months, April, May and October: Fares can be lower. Weather can be mixed.

  • Wet season, around May to October: More rain and rougher seas. Fares and hotel prices often drop, and direct UK flights do not run.

Prices still vary by route and airline, so compare your actual dates.

Check Baggage Before You Book

The cheapest headline fare is not always the cheapest complete journey.

Before you book, check:

  • Cabin baggage allowance: size and weight rules vary by airline.

  • Checked baggage: most Gulf airlines include it, but some fares do not.

  • Seat fees: some fares charge to choose seats, including seats together.

  • Fare rules: cheaper fares may have strict change and refund rules.

  • Airport transfer costs: Phuket Airport is a long way from most resorts.

Check the hand luggage rules for UK airlines before you pack. Then confirm the rules on your airline's website.

Phuket International Airport (HKT)

Phuket International Airport (HKT) is in the north of the island, around 32 km from Phuket Town. International flights use Terminal 2.

Most beach areas are in the west and south of the island. That means most transfers take 45 minutes to over an hour.

Approximate travel time from HKT

Times depend on traffic. Taxis, airport buses, minibuses and pre-booked transfers are all available. For late arrivals or families, a pre-booked transfer is usually easiest.

Things to Check Before Booking Your Flight to Phuket

Time zone

Phuket uses Indochina Time (ICT), which is seven hours ahead of the UK during British Winter Time and six hours ahead during British Summer Time.

Currency

The Thai baht (THB) is the local currency. Cards are widely accepted in hotels, larger restaurants, shops and tourist areas, while cash is still useful for markets, smaller businesses, taxis and local food stalls.

Language

Thai is the main language spoken in Phuket. English is widely used in hotels, restaurants, tourist attractions and many businesses, so travellers booking flights to Phuket from the UK should generally be able to communicate in the main tourist areas.

Transportation

Phuket has taxis, private transfers, buses and ride-hailing services, although public transport is more limited than in major European cities. Phuket International Airport (HKT) is in the north of the island, and the journey to popular areas such as Patong, Kata and Karon can take longer during busy periods.

Weather

Phuket has a tropical climate with warm temperatures throughout the year. The drier season generally runs from around November to April, while the wetter months can bring heavier rain and rougher seas. Check the Phuket weather before choosing your travel dates, particularly if you plan to spend time on the beaches or take boat trips.

Baggage allowances

Baggage rules depend on the airline, fare type and cabin you book. Check both cabin and checked baggage allowances before comparing flights to Phuket from the UK, as a cheaper fare may include less baggage or charge separately for extras.

Pre-booking options

Seat selection, checked baggage, airport transfers, travel insurance and other extras may be available when booking. Compare the total flight and holiday cost with the extras you actually need rather than comparing the basic airfare alone.

Airport and flight options

UK flights to Phuket arrive at Phuket International Airport (HKT), the main airport serving the island. Direct services are limited compared with routes to Bangkok, so many UK travellers may need to connect elsewhere. When comparing flights from the UK, check the departure airport, airline, connection time, baggage allowance and total journey time.

Schedule flexibility

Checking nearby travel dates and different UK departure airports can give you more flight and holiday options. This is particularly useful around Christmas, New Year, UK school holidays and the peak winter travel season, when demand for flights to Phuket can be higher.

Entry requirements

British citizens can currently visit Thailand without arranging a visa in advance for eligible short stays, subject to the applicable entry conditions. Travellers must meet passport and other entry requirements, and Thailand's rules can change. Confirm the latest information with GOV.UK before departure.
