No single airline or airport always gives the cheapest flights to the UAE from the UK. The lowest fare depends on six things: your departure airport, whether you land at Dubai (DXB) or Abu Dhabi (AUH), whether you fly direct or with a stop, your travel dates, how much baggage you need, and how much time you can spend travelling.
A cheap headline fare can become expensive once you add bags, a long connection or an airport transfer. This guide compares UK–UAE routes, airlines and fares so you can find the best total price, not just the lowest number on the screen.
The FCDO warns that flights can be cancelled and airspace can close at short notice. Check the FCDO UAE travel advice and your airline before you book.
The cheapest way to fly from the UK to the UAE is usually to compare direct and one-stop flights from more than one UK airport, to both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, across flexible dates. Then check the final price with baggage included.
These factors decide your total fare most often:
Departure airport. London has the most flights and airlines. Regional airports have fewer choices, which can raise or lower fares depending on demand.
Destination airport. Dubai has more direct flights from the UK. Abu Dhabi is sometimes cheaper, but only if it suits where you are staying.
Direct or indirect. One-stop fares can be lower, but they take longer and involve connection risks.
Travel dates. School holidays, Christmas and winter half-terms usually push fares up.
Baggage. Some fares include a checked bag and some don't.
Fare type. Cheaper fare types often have stricter rules on changes, refunds and seats.
Connection time. A long layover can mean paying for food or even a hotel.
Airport transfers. Getting to a UK airport and from a UAE airport both cost money.
Package or flight-only. A flight-and-hotel package can sometimes cost less than booking both separately.
The cheapest airfare is not always the cheapest journey. Take a £300 one-stop fare with no checked bag and a nine-hour layover. Once you add a £60 bag, food during the wait and a longer taxi ride at the other end, it can easily cost more than a £380 direct fare with a bag included. (These figures are illustrations only, not current prices.)
The table below shows routes confirmed as operating in September 2026. Schedules change often, so always check the airline before booking.
| UK airport | UAE airport | Direct airline(s) | Direct or indirect | Typical flight time | Fare points to check |
| London Heathrow (LHR) | Dubai (DXB) | Emirates; British Airways restart planned | Direct | About 7 hours | Most flight times and fare types |
| London Heathrow (LHR) | Abu Dhabi (AUH) | Etihad Airways | Direct | About 7 hours | Useful for Abu Dhabi stays |
| London Gatwick (LGW) | Dubai (DXB) | Emirates (four a day) | Direct | About 7 hours | Late-evening and morning options |
| London Stansted (STN) | Dubai (DXB) | Emirates | Direct | About 7–7.5 hours | Handy for East of England |
| Manchester (MAN) | Dubai (DXB) | Emirates | Direct | About 7 hours | Strong choice for the North |
| Manchester (MAN) | Abu Dhabi (AUH) | Etihad Airways | Direct | About 7 hours | Direct Abu Dhabi option outside London |
| Birmingham (BHX) | Dubai (DXB) | Emirates | Direct | About 7 hours | Midlands option |
| Birmingham (BHX) | Abu Dhabi (AUH) | None confirmed | Indirect | Varies with connection | Compare against driving to Manchester or London |
| Glasgow (GLA) | Dubai (DXB) | Emirates | Direct | About 7–7.5 hours | Scotland without going via London |
| Edinburgh (EDI) | Dubai (DXB) | Emirates | Direct | About 7–7.5 hours | Scotland |
| Newcastle (NCL) | Dubai (DXB) | Emirates | Direct | About 7–7.5 hours | North East |
| Leeds Bradford, Bristol, Cardiff | Dubai / Abu Dhabi | None | Indirect | Varies with connection | Compare against driving to a direct airport |
Flight times can run longer than normal. In 2026, some airlines have had to fly around closed airspace.
You can compare flights from the UK by airport and date with TravelApp.
London Heathrow (LHR) is the UK's main airport for direct flights to the UAE from London. It serves both of the UAE's two main airports:
Emirates flies Heathrow to Dubai several times a day.
Etihad Airways flies Heathrow to Abu Dhabi several times a day.
British Airways paused its Heathrow–Dubai route in 2026. It plans to restart in late 2026, but the date has already moved more than once. Its Heathrow–Abu Dhabi service is not expected back before 2027.
Heathrow's big advantage is choice. With more flights, you have a better chance of finding a fare that fits your dates.
London Gatwick (LGW) has four direct Emirates flights a day to Dubai. London Stansted (STN) also has direct Emirates flights.
For people living in Sussex, Surrey, Kent or Essex, these airports can save a long trip across London. That can mean saving on parking, trains or an early-morning taxi.
Compare flights from London across all three airports. The same airline can price the same date differently from each one.
Manchester (MAN) has direct Emirates flights to Dubai and direct Etihad flights to Abu Dhabi. It is one of the key UK airports outside London offering direct services to both cities. For travellers in the North West, Yorkshire and North Wales, that can remove the need to travel to London.
Check current flights from Manchester to Dubai when comparing your dates.
Birmingham (BHX) has direct Emirates flights to Dubai. For Abu Dhabi, you will need a connecting flight. Midlands travellers heading to Abu Dhabi can compare that connection against driving to Manchester or Heathrow for a direct Etihad flight.
See current flights from Birmingham to Dubai when comparing routes.
Newcastle (NCL) has direct Emirates flights to Dubai. For Abu Dhabi, you will need a connection through Dubai, Doha, Istanbul or London. Compare flights from Newcastle to Dubai.
Glasgow (GLA) and Edinburgh (EDI) both have direct Emirates flights to Dubai, depending on the current schedule. Scottish travellers therefore have direct options to Dubai without necessarily connecting through Heathrow.
See flights from Glasgow to Dubai or Edinburgh to Dubai flights.
It can be, but add up the full cost first. A fare that is £40 cheaper from Heathrow may not save anything once you pay for:
a train ticket or several days of parking
a hotel near the airport for an early flight
the extra travel time on both legs of the trip
For families, a direct flight from a nearby airport is often worth paying a little more for.
For most UK travellers, the main UAE flight choices are Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Dubai International Airport (DXB) has a wider range of direct UK services, while Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) is particularly useful for travellers staying in Abu Dhabi or around Yas Island and Saadiyat.
Your choice of airport can affect the overall cost of the trip. A slightly cheaper flight is not necessarily better value if it leaves you with a long transfer to your hotel.
Dubai International Airport (DXB) is the main international airport serving Dubai. It has the most direct flights from the UK. Zayed International Airport (AUH), formerly called Abu Dhabi International Airport, serves Abu Dhabi and is Etihad's home base.
Fly to Dubai if:
you are staying in Dubai
you want the widest choice of UK departure airports
you want a short transfer to your hotel
Fly to Abu Dhabi if:
you are staying in Abu Dhabi, for example for Yas Island or Saadiyat
you live near Heathrow or Manchester
Etihad has a better fare for your dates
Sometimes. Abu Dhabi fares can be lower on some dates, but Dubai usually has more flights and more competition. If you are staying in Dubai, the road transfer from Abu Dhabi can cancel out a small saving.
Abu Dhabi's airport is more than an hour's drive from Dubai Marina, and further from Downtown Dubai and Deira. A taxi adds cost and time, especially after a night flight with children.
If Dubai is your destination, you can compare a Dubai all-inclusive holiday package that includes flights into DXB.
A direct flight can be worth paying more for when the time saving and simpler journey matter to you. A direct flight takes about seven hours, while a one-stop trip often takes 10 to 20 hours. Direct flights also remove the risk of a missed connection and avoid the need to transfer between connecting flights.
Direct flight advantages:
shorter journey
one boarding, one baggage drop
no connection to catch
much easier with children
less time sitting in airports
Indirect flight advantages:
the headline fare can be lower
more airlines to choose from
flights from UK airports that don't have direct UAE services
Indirect flight disadvantages:
much longer total journey
risk of missing your connection if the first flight is late
baggage rules can differ between airlines
separate tickets may leave you unprotected if you miss the second flight
some routes need an overnight stop or an airport change
Indirect flights to Abu Dhabi are sometimes cheaper than direct Etihad flights, but not always. Once you add baggage, meals and the longer journey, the difference is often small. Compare both options with your bags included.
From Heathrow or Manchester, direct Etihad flights are worth pricing first. From Birmingham, Scotland or other airports, a one-stop flight may be the most practical way to reach Abu Dhabi, so compare it with travelling to a direct airport.
Doha: Qatar Airways, from several UK airports
Istanbul: Turkish Airlines, and Pegasus Airlines as a lower-cost option
Jeddah or Riyadh: Saudia, from some UK airports
European hubs: through cities such as Amsterdam or Frankfurt
For Muslim travellers, a connection through Saudi Arabia can be combined with a pilgrimage. See our Umrah plus Dubai holidays.
| Airline | Route | Direct or indirect | Typical fare structure | Baggage | Best for |
| Emirates | 8 UK airports to Dubai | Direct | Several fare types from basic to flexible | Checked bag in most fares; allowance varies | Direct flights from most of the UK |
| Etihad Airways | Heathrow and Manchester to Abu Dhabi | Direct | Several fare types | Varies by fare type | Abu Dhabi stays |
| British Airways | Heathrow to Dubai (restart planned) | Direct | Several fare types, including hand-baggage-only | Check your fare | Avios collectors, once flights resume |
| Qatar Airways | UK to Dubai/Abu Dhabi via Doha | Indirect | Full-service | Checked bag in most fares | A lower fare with full service |
| Turkish Airlines | UK to UAE via Istanbul | Indirect | Full-service | Checked bag in most fares | Wide choice of UK airports |
| Saudia | UK to UAE via Jeddah/Riyadh | Indirect | Full-service | Varies by fare | Combining a trip with Saudi Arabia |
Pegasus Airlines is a low-cost airline based in Istanbul. It offers one-stop UK–UAE journeys, and its headline fares can be low. Checked bags, seats and meals usually cost extra, so compare the final price carefully.
Wizz Air has no direct UK–UAE flights. Its Abu Dhabi-based airline, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, closed on 1 September 2025. Wizz Air is bringing back some UAE routes from late October 2026, but these connect the UAE with other European cities, not the UK. Reaching the UAE with Wizz Air would mean separate tickets through Europe, which carries the risks described above.
No single airline is always cheapest from the UK to Dubai. Emirates has the most direct flights. One-stop airlines such as Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines and Pegasus can show lower headline fares on some dates, but baggage and travel time differ.
Peak travel periods usually have the highest fares:
Christmas and New Year
February half-term and Easter
October half-term
the UK summer holidays, from late July to August
major events in the UAE
Quieter periods can bring lower fares. These include parts of June, September, and late November to early December outside the holidays.
Summer is a special case. Extreme heat in the UAE reduces hotel demand, but flight prices still depend on how many seats airlines put on sale and on UK school holidays. A cheap hotel week in August does not always mean a cheap flight.
No month is always cheapest. Fares are often lower in quieter periods such as June, September, and early December outside school holidays. Prices still change by route, airline and demand, so check several dates.
For weather by month, see our Dubai weather guide on the TravelApp blog.
Booking earlier gives you more choice, especially for:
school holidays
Christmas and New Year
family groups needing seats together
specific flight times or direct routes from regional airports
Booking later can work outside busy periods, but it is a gamble. Direct flights from smaller airports and cheaper fare types can sell out.
No set number of weeks guarantees the cheapest UAE fare. Prices depend on demand, season and how many seats are left. For school holidays and Christmas, booking a few months ahead usually gives more choice. Outside peak times, you have more flexibility.
A good habit is to check your route over a couple of weeks before you book. This shows you what a normal fare looks like for your dates.
Compare several UK airports, including the cost of reaching each one.
Compare Dubai and Abu Dhabi, but only if both suit where you are staying.
Check flexible dates. Moving by a day or two can change the fare.
Compare direct and one-stop flights with the full journey time shown.
Check the baggage allowance on every option.
Read the full itinerary, including layover length and any airport change.
Compare return combinations. Sometimes flying out from one airport and back to another works better.
Check the final price before paying, including every extra.
Add transfer costs at both ends.
Compare flight-only prices with packages if you also need a hotel.
A fare is only one part of your trip cost. Check what each fare includes:
Cabin bag: size and weight rules differ.
Checked bag: included in some fares, extra in others.
Seat selection: may cost extra, which matters for families.
Meals: included on full-service flights, extra on low-cost ones.
Connections: food, lounge or hotel costs on long layovers.
Transfers: taxis or trains at both ends.
Payment charges: check whether your payment method adds a fee.
Headline fare + extras = your real flight cost. Always compare the real cost.
Yes. Some fares on direct and connecting flights include only a cabin bag, and they can cost less. They only save money if you really can travel light, because adding a checked bag later often costs more than choosing a fare with one included.
If you need a hotel as well as flights, compare two prices:
flight + hotel booked separately
flight + hotel as one package
A package is not always cheaper, but it sometimes is. Some hotel rates are only available when booked with a flight. Also check what each option includes:
the flight price and times
the hotel price and location
baggage
airport transfers
the meal plan, known as the board basis
financial protection, as flight-inclusive packages from an ATOL holder are ATOL protected
You can compare holiday packages from the UK with the separate costs to see which works out better for your dates. Whichever you choose, arrange travel insurance as soon as you book. That matters more than usual in 2026, with disruption still possible.
Once you know which airport, airline and fare type suit you, the next step is to compare real prices for your dates.

Find answers to common questions about traveling to United Arab Emirates
No single month is always cheapest. Quieter periods such as June, September and early December often have lower fares, while school holidays and Christmas are usually the most expensive.
It changes by date. Emirates has the most direct flights, while Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines and Pegasus offer one-stop options that can sometimes cost less. Compare with baggage included.
Indirect flights can be cheaper, but not always. Direct Etihad flights from Heathrow and Manchester are worth pricing first, especially once bags and journey time are counted.
No fixed number of weeks guarantees the lowest fare. For school holidays and Christmas, book a few months ahead. At other times, keep an eye on prices and book when a fare fits your budget.
No airport is always cheapest. London has the most flights and airlines, which gives more fare choice. A nearby regional airport can still work out cheaper once travel to the airport is included.
Compare direct and one-stop flights from more than one airport, over flexible dates, with baggage included. If you also need a hotel, compare a package too.
Sometimes, but not reliably. If you are staying in Dubai, the transfer from Abu Dhabi usually takes more than an hour, which can cancel out a small saving.
Emirates flies direct from Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. British Airways plans to restart Heathrow–Dubai flights in late 2026. Check the airline for current dates.
A direct flight takes about seven hours, slightly longer from Scotland and the North East. One-stop journeys often take 10 to 20 hours.
It depends on the airline and fare type. Full-service airlines usually include a checked bag in most fares, while low-cost and basic fares may not. Always check your ticket before you fly.
