Air Transat will launch a seasonal, twice-weekly direct service between Birmingham Airport (BHX) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) from 23 June to 23 October 2027. The route restores Air Transat's direct Birmingham–Toronto connection, last operated in October 2017.
The non-stop service gives Midlands travellers a convenient alternative to flying from other UK airports or connecting through a European hub.
The service will be operated with Airbus A321LR aircraft.

Birmingham Airport figures show that around 10,000 passengers travelled indirectly between Birmingham and Toronto in 2025. The new service gives these passengers a non-stop alternative to connecting flights.
The route is likely to appeal to several groups of travellers across the Midlands:
Leisure and family: Passengers visiting friends and relatives can avoid multi-leg journeys.
Students: Those travelling between the UK and Canadian universities and colleges gain a direct option.
Working holidays: Simpler travel for young people heading to Canada on youth mobility programmes.
Business: Direct access for corporate travellers heading to Toronto.
Passengers arriving at Toronto Pearson can use Air Transat's partnership with Porter Airlines to connect to destinations including:
Vancouver (YVR)
Montréal (YUL)
Calgary (YYC)
Edmonton (YEG)
Travel note: When booking journeys with more than one flight, check baggage arrangements and connection times at Toronto Pearson.
UK passport holders flying to Canada need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before departure.
Official channel: Apply only through the official Government of Canada website to avoid third-party sites that charge extra fees.
Validity: An approved eTA is linked electronically to the traveller's passport. It is valid for up to five years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first, subject to continued eligibility.
Birmingham joins Air Transat's existing UK departure points at London Gatwick (LGW), Manchester (MAN) and Glasgow (GLA). It is one of five new Canada–Europe routes the airline announced for summer 2027, alongside services linking Canada with Geneva, Lyon, Barcelona and Faro.
For Birmingham Airport, the route restores a direct transatlantic link to Canada's most populous city.
Travellers planning Canadian itineraries for summer 2027 can now factor the direct Birmingham–Toronto route into their plans.
