About Flights to Tenerife

Direct flights from the UK to Tenerife take around 4 hours 15 minutes from London and up to 4 hours 45 minutes from Scotland. Jet2, easyJet, Ryanair, TUI and British Airways fly to Tenerife South Airport (TFS) from more than 25 UK airports. Most resorts in Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos are around 20 to 30 minutes from the airport.

Tenerife is one of the UK's favourite year-round sun destinations, and one of the busiest routes among all flights to Spain. Manchester and London Gatwick are the airport's two busiest routes in Europe, and most UK regional airports have a direct flight.

With that many airlines and airports, prices can vary a lot. Baggage, seat fees and departure airport can change the real cost of the same week in the sun.

Which Airport Do You Fly Into in Tenerife?

Tenerife South (TFS)

Almost all UK flights land at Tenerife South Airport, also called Tenerife Sur or Reina Sofía. It is in the south of the island, close to the main resort areas.

The airport has a single terminal, and arrivals, check-in and baggage reclaim are all on the main floor. It handled around 14 million passengers in 2025.

Tenerife North (TFN)

Tenerife North mainly handles flights to mainland Spain and the other Canary Islands. There are very few UK flights. Make sure your booking says Tenerife South (TFS) if you are staying in the south.

Times are approximate. Winter schedules are usually busier than summer on this route, as Tenerife is a popular winter sun destination.

Compare more than one airport. London has the most choice, with five airports serving the island. Travellers in the South East can start by comparing flights from London across Gatwick, Stansted and Luton.

Outside London, Bristol and Newcastle often have a good spread of airlines. Travellers in the South West can compare flights from Bristol, while those in the North East can check flights from Newcastle before heading further afield.

Comparing four airlines across several airports takes time. Tell TravelApp UK your nearest airports and dates, and the team will line up the options for you.

On a four-hour flight, baggage matters. Most people need more than a small bag for a week in the sun. Before you choose a fare, it is worth comparing hand luggage rules across airlines, then pricing fares with the bags you actually need.

How to Find the Cheapest Flights to Tenerife

There is no single cheapest airline or day to fly to Tenerife. These steps usually make the biggest difference.

Compare Your Nearest Airports

With so many routes, two airports an hour apart can have very different fares. Travellers in the North West can start by comparing flights from Manchester, then check nearby Liverpool or Leeds Bradford for the same dates.

Compare Fares with Bags Included

A low fare can rise quickly once you add a cabin bag and hold bag for a week away. Compare the total price, not the headline fare.

Avoid School Holiday Peaks Where You Can

Christmas, February half-term, Easter and the October half-term are the busiest times for Tenerife. Prices usually rise sharply on these dates.

Look at Shoulder Months

May, June and September can offer warm weather with lower fares than school holidays.

Watch for Sales and Late Deals

Airline sales do appear throughout the year. If your dates are flexible, finding last-minute flight deals can work well for Tenerife, especially midweek and outside school holidays.

Comparing all of this across several airlines takes time. Send TravelApp your dates, airports and baggage needs, and the team will compare the total price for you.

When Is the Best Time to Fly to Tenerife?

Tenerife is a year-round destination, often called the island of eternal spring.

  • Winter (November to March): The most popular time for UK travellers. Daytime highs are around 21°C to 22°C in the south. Fares are highest at Christmas and February half-term.

  • Spring (April to June): Warm and settled, with highs of around 23°C to 25°C. Easter is busy.

  • Summer (July to August): Hot, with highs around 28°C to 30°C. School holidays push fares up.

  • Autumn (September to October): Still warm, and the sea is at its warmest. Fares often drop after the summer holidays end.

The south and west coasts are usually sunnier and drier than the north. If guaranteed sun matters to you, stay in the south.

Tenerife Holiday Packages from UK

Many UK travellers book Tenerife as a package with flights, hotel and transfers. Tenerife has a wide choice of all-inclusive resorts, family hotels and adult-only stays.

Flight-only bookings suit travellers who own an apartment, are visiting family or want to arrange their own accommodation.

For families who want meals and drinks covered, it is worth looking at all-inclusive holidays alongside flight-only fares. Couples and groups can also compare holiday packages from the UK that combine flights, a hotel and transfers in one booking. Or tell the TravelApp team your dates and budget, and they will compare both for you.

Eligible flight-inclusive packages come with ATOL protection. Deposits and flexible payment options may be available on eligible bookings, subject to terms.

  • It must be valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave.

ETIAS is not yet in place, and the EU has not confirmed a start date.

Things to Check Before Booking Your Flight to Tenerife

Time zone

Tenerife uses Western European Time, the same time zone as the UK. The island also changes its clocks for daylight saving at the same time as the UK, so there is normally no time difference throughout the year.

Currency

The euro (EUR) is the local currency. Cards and contactless payments are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, shops and tourist areas. Carrying some cash can still be useful for smaller businesses, markets and tips.

Language

Spanish is the official language of Tenerife. English is widely spoken in the main tourist areas, particularly in resorts such as Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos.

Transportation

TITSA buses run across the island, and a tram links Santa Cruz with La Laguna in the north. Taxis and hire cars are widely available, but travel times can vary depending on your resort and traffic.

Weather

Tenerife has a mild climate throughout the year, making it popular for winter sun. The south is generally warmer and drier, while the north tends to be greener and can see more cloud and rain. Temperatures can also be cooler around Mount Teide, so pack for different conditions if you plan to explore the island.

Baggage allowances

Baggage rules depend on the airline, fare type and cabin. Check both cabin and checked baggage allowances before comparing flights to Tenerife from the UK, particularly on low-cost fares where extras may cost more.

Pre-booking options

Seat selection, checked baggage, airport transfers, travel insurance, car hire and other extras may be available when booking. Compare the full holiday cost with the extras you actually need rather than looking only at the starting airfare. Arrange travel insurance for your trip at the same time as booking, so you are covered if plans change.

Airport and flight options

Almost all UK flights arrive at Tenerife South (TFS), which is closest to the main southern resorts. Tenerife North (TFN) mainly handles flights to mainland Spain and the other Canary Islands. Check the airport carefully when comparing flights, as transfer times to your hotel can be very different.

Schedule flexibility

Comparing different UK departure airports and nearby dates can give you more choice. Demand is often strong during UK winter months, Christmas, Easter and school holidays.

Entry requirements

British citizens can visit Spain, including Tenerife, without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Passports must meet Schengen issue and expiry rules, and EES border checks apply. Requirements can change, so confirm the latest information on GOV.UK before departure.

Tenerife is part of Spain, so EES checks apply when UK travellers arrive and leave. The system records fingerprints and a facial image instead of relying only on passport stamps. Processing can take longer, so allow plenty of time at the airport and follow the latest instructions from Spanish and UK authorities.

Most airlines recommend arriving at least 2 hours before an international departure. Check your airline's advice, as recommendations vary. During busy periods, check-in, security and passport control can take longer, so arriving earlier can help avoid unnecessary stress.
