British Airways has signed a new codeshare agreement with Mexican low-cost carrier Viva, formerly known as Viva Aerobus. The deal gives UK travellers access to 13 destinations across Mexico through connections at Mexico City and Cancún.
Bookings are open now through British Airways. Travel on eligible connecting journeys starts on 28 March 2027, at the beginning of the summer 2027 season, with both airlines’ flights on a single ticket.
The partnership extends British Airways’ reach within Mexico. Passengers travelling from London can reach more destinations without arranging separate domestic flights.
The codeshare agreement covers connections through two Mexican airports: Mexico City International Airport (MEX) and Cancún International Airport (CUN).
The destinations available depend on the connecting airport.
Passengers connecting through Mexico City will have access to:
Guadalajara
Veracruz
Monterrey
Oaxaca
Cancún
Mérida
San José del Cabo
Chihuahua
Hermosillo
Puerto Vallarta
Tijuana
Passengers travelling through Cancún will be able to connect to:
Veracruz
León
Guadalajara
Monterrey
Querétaro
Chihuahua
Tijuana
Several destinations appear in both lists, giving passengers a choice of connecting hubs for eligible journeys. For ideas on what to see in each region, Visit Mexico, the country’s official tourism site, has destination guides.
The codeshare agreement brings several benefits for passengers travelling between the UK and Mexico:
Single-ticket bookings: Eligible British Airways and Viva flights can be booked together under one reservation, rather than as separate tickets.
Missed connection protection: Passengers travelling on a qualifying through-ticket have greater protection if delays cause them to miss a connecting flight. Rebooking is subject to the airline’s conditions.
Avios and tier points: British Airways Club members can earn Avios and tier points on eligible Viva-operated flights booked under a BA flight number. Avios cannot currently be redeemed for Viva flights.
Connections to London: The partnership also works in the opposite direction. Passengers travelling from Mexican cities can connect through Mexico City or Cancún to British Airways flights to London. From there they can continue across the airline’s wider network and the oneworld alliance.
The single-ticket arrangement makes it simpler to plan journeys that combine international and domestic flights. Travellers should still check baggage arrangements, connection times and the conditions attached to their booking.
Viva, formerly known as Viva Aerobus, is a Mexican low-cost airline. It has operated for 20 years and carried more than 180 million passengers.
The airline serves over 60 destinations across Mexico, the United States, Colombia, Costa Rica and Cuba. Its fleet consists of 110 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft.
British Airways chief planning and strategy officer Neil Chernoff said Mexico had been an important part of the airline’s network for more than 60 years. He described the agreement as a new development in that relationship.
Viva’s chief planning and alliances officer, Javier Suárez, said the agreement would let passengers reach more destinations on a single ticket.
