November can be a good time to find a holiday deal from the UK. October half-term is over, many resorts are quieter, and places such as the Canary Islands, Egypt, Cape Verde and Dubai are still warm. There is no guaranteed bargain, though. The price you pay depends on where you go, your dates, your departure airport, your baggage and the hotel and board you choose.
This guide compares winter sun destinations, explains how to find better-value flights and holidays, and shows you how to check whether a discount is worth taking.
TravelApp UK is a travel agency that books flights and holiday packages. If you already have dates and a budget in mind, our team can put together a quote for you.
It can be, but there is a difference between travelling in November and booking during November.
Travelling in November: Most UK children are in school throughout the month, so demand from families is lower than during half-term or Christmas. That can mean more choice of flights and rooms.
Booking in November: Black Friday and Cyber Monday bring offers that may cover travel later in the year or in 2027. Dates, destinations and conditions depend on each seller.
The weather is not the same everywhere. The Canary Islands are mild to warm, Egypt and Cape Verde are warmer, and the Mediterranean is cooling down. Days are shorter too. In Marrakech, for example, the sun sets at around 5.30 pm in mid-November, although the exact time varies by date. See Marrakech November climate information.
No month or booking window guarantees the lowest price. The UK Civil Aviation Authority explains that trips usually cost more at busy times such as school holidays, and flexible dates can help. See the CAA's trip-planning advice.
Shoulder season is the period between a destination's busiest and quietest times. It can bring fair prices, fewer crowds and pleasant weather.
November is shoulder season for parts of the Mediterranean, where temperatures are cooler and some seasonal hotels close or reduce their facilities. Winter sun destinations follow a different pattern. For the Canary Islands, Egypt, Cape Verde and Dubai, November marks the start of a busier travel period. Prices can rise as Christmas approaches, so early to mid-November may offer better value than the festive period.
The warmest choices within roughly seven hours of the UK include Cape Verde, Sharm El Sheikh and Dubai. The Canary Islands are generally milder but closer to home. Marrakech is better suited to a city break than a traditional beach holiday.

These temperatures are approximate long-term climate averages, not forecasts for your travel dates. Flight times are estimates for direct services from London; other UK airports differ, and some routes operate seasonally. Check schedules before booking.
Climate references include Canary Islands temperature averages, Tenerife and the Canary Islands in November, Marrakech, Sharm El Sheikh, Cape Verde and Dubai. For official Spanish climate information, see AEMET.
The Canary Islands are one of the closest popular winter sun options from the UK. They are in the Atlantic Ocean, off north-west Africa, rather than the Mediterranean. Expect mild to warm days instead of tropical heat, with sea temperatures often around 21–22°C.
Tenerife is a good all-round choice for families and couples, with beach resorts, walking routes and water parks. The south is usually warmer and sunnier than the north.
Gran Canaria combines beach resorts with city life, sand dunes and inland villages. It suits travellers who want more than a hotel pool.
Lanzarote is known for volcanic scenery and dry weather. It can suit a relaxed break, but check how far your hotel is from the airport and beach.
A cheaper flight can land at an airport or on an island that means a longer or more expensive transfer. Compare the full journey, not just the airfare. Browse flights to Spain to explore routes to the islands.
Marrakech is a city break rather than a beach holiday. Days can be pleasant for exploring the souks and gardens, but evenings get cool, so pack layers.
If you prefer to have meals and resort facilities arranged, a hotel just outside the city may suit you. See our Marrakech all-inclusive holiday package or browse flights to Morocco.
The Mediterranean is usually cooler than the Canary Islands in November. It can be a good choice for sightseeing, cultural visits and relaxed resort stays, but it is less reliable for a beach-focused holiday.

If you want a Mediterranean all-inclusive holiday, compare our Antalya all-inclusive package, 5-star Antalya option and Tunisia all-inclusive package in Hammamet.
For swimming and pool time, compare these destinations with the Canary Islands and Egypt first. November weather can be changeable, and not every hotel keeps all facilities open.
If you want warmer weather and do not mind a longer flight, these destinations are worth comparing.
Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt: Around five to five and a half hours direct from London. Warm days, Red Sea beaches and coral reefs make it popular for snorkelling, and many resorts offer all-inclusive stays. Check the latest FCDO advice for Egypt before booking and travelling. Browse flights to Egypt.
Cape Verde: Around six hours direct to Sal on routes that operate. It offers sandy beaches, warm weather and steady breezes. Many holidays are resort-based, and flight choice is more limited than for the Canaries.
Dubai: Around seven hours direct from London. It combines beaches with theme parks, malls and city attractions. Paid activities can increase the total cost, so compare them before deciding whether an all-inclusive stay is worthwhile. Explore our Dubai all-inclusive package, premium Dubai all-inclusive package and luxury Dubai all-inclusive package, or browse flights to the UAE.
Planning something special, such as a honeymoon? Consider our Mauritius luxury package or Maldives honeymoon package. Weather varies by island and month, so ask about conditions for your exact dates.
November can suit families with children who are not yet at school, or those planning ahead for Christmas and future school holidays.
Tenerife and Gran Canaria offer relatively short flights and a wide choice of resorts. Sharm El Sheikh suits families looking for a warm, resort-based trip. Dubai offers plenty of attractions, although tickets and activities can increase the overall budget.
Before booking, check that children's pools, kids' clubs and entertainment are operating on your dates. Make sure the room comfortably fits everyone travelling, and check whether the flight times and transfers work for your family.
The biggest savings usually come from comparing several realistic options rather than relying on a booking trick. Use these steps when searching for November flights and holidays.
Compare nearby dates. Moving your trip by a day or two can change the price. Early-morning or late-night departures can sometimes cost less.
Check other UK airports. Compare flights from London, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol. Include the cost of transport, parking and extra travel time.
Compare direct and connecting flights. A connection can cost less but adds time. If you book separate tickets yourself, you may not be protected if a delay causes you to miss the next flight.
Add the extras. Cabin bags, hold luggage and seat selection can all change the final fare.
Try different trip lengths. Seven, ten and fourteen nights can price differently, and some routes operate only on certain days.
Read the terms. Check deposits, payment dates, changes and cancellation conditions before paying.
There is no single best low-cost airline for every trip. The right choice depends on your route, departure airport, baggage needs and preferred flight times.
For flights within Europe, compare Ryanair, easyJet, Wizz Air, Vueling and Jet2, where they operate your route. Jet2 also sells package holidays, so compare its package price with the cost of booking flights and accommodation separately.
Before choosing an airline, compare:
The final fare: Include the cabin or hold bags you need and any seat-selection charges.
The route: Check whether the airline flies directly to your destination from a convenient UK airport.
The airport location: A lower fare may mean a longer journey from the arrival airport to your hotel.
The flight schedule: Consider departure times, arrival times and how frequently the route operates.
The booking conditions: Review changes, cancellations and missed-connection arrangements.
A low-cost airline is not automatically the cheapest option once extras are added. Nor does a low headline fare tell you which airline is most reliable. For reliability, compare current punctuality and cancellation information alongside price.
If your route has only one or two flights a week, paying a little more for a convenient schedule may be worth it.
All-inclusive can offer better value, but it is not always the cheapest option. It often works well in resort areas where eating out is limited or where you want to know more of your food and drink costs in advance, such as Sharm El Sheikh or Cape Verde.
In places with plenty of affordable cafés and restaurants, including many Canary Islands resorts, breakfast, half board or self-catering may cost less.
Before booking, check:
Meals and drinks: Which restaurants and drinks are included? Are snacks or branded drinks extra?
Pools and beach: Is the pool heated in November, and how far is the beach?
Family facilities: Are kids' clubs and entertainment running during your stay?
Room type: Compare the same room type, view and number of nights.
Flights, bags and transfers: Check what is included and what costs extra.
Payment and cancellation: Confirm the deposit, payment dates and cancellation conditions.
Compare the total for everyone travelling rather than relying on a per-person headline price. Browse our all-inclusive holidays to compare package options and inclusions.
Neither option is always cheaper. Compare the same trip, with the same extras and terms, before deciding.

Protection depends on what you book and how you pay. |
Package holidays come with legal rights in the UK. The organiser is responsible for delivering the package as agreed. If the organiser proposes a price increase of more than 8%, you can generally terminate the contract without a termination fee, subject to the regulations. If the organiser cancels before you travel, you are entitled to the remedies set out in the applicable rules, which may include a refund. See the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018.
ATOL is a financial protection scheme for certain flight-inclusive holidays and some flight-only bookings. It helps protect customers if the relevant travel business stops trading. It is not travel insurance and does not cover every disruption, such as an ordinary flight cancellation.
Read the official ATOL explanation and check your ATOL Certificate. The certificate identifies the company providing protection, which may differ from the business you booked through.
Applicable TravelApp flight and holiday packages are ATOL protected. Check the protection details and your ATOL Certificate when you book. You should also arrange suitable travel insurance.
There is no rule that booking a set number of weeks ahead will always produce the cheapest price. Research into international airfares has found that prices can move substantially in either direction before departure. Waiting may pay off, but it can also leave you with fewer options or a higher fare.
Choose an approach that fits your plans:
Flexible dates: Compare days, airports and trip lengths. Book when the total price suits your budget.
Fixed dates or school holidays: Start looking early. Popular dates, direct flights and family rooms can sell out.
A particular hotel or room: Consider booking once you find an option at a price you are comfortable with. A cheaper flight later is no help if your preferred room is no longer available.
Last-minute travel: Deals sometimes appear when seats or rooms remain unsold, but prices can also rise. This approach suits flexible couples and solo travellers more easily than families with fixed dates.
If you live in the South West, departing from Bristol Airport may save you a long journey to London. The same principle applies to travellers comparing Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The main difference is the choice of routes. Some regional airports have fewer direct services to winter sun destinations, and some routes operate only on certain days or during particular seasons.
To find better value from Bristol:
Check direct destinations first. Confirm which winter sun routes operate on your dates.
Compare several departure dates. If your schedule allows, check a few days either side of your preferred departure.
Compare the full journey from other airports. A cheaper flight from London or Birmingham may not save money once transport, parking and travel time are included.
Book earlier when your choices are limited. If you need a direct route, a specific departure day or a family room, waiting for a last-minute offer is riskier.
Compare packages as well as flights. A combined flight and hotel price may work out differently from booking each part separately.
There is no reliable universal rule that Bristol holidays are cheapest a certain number of months before departure. The best timing depends on the destination, dates, airline schedules and remaining hotel availability.

Black Friday falls on Friday 27 November 2026, followed by Cyber Monday on Monday 30 November 2026. Some travel offers start before Black Friday and continue into the following week, but each company sets its own promotion dates and conditions.
A large discount label does not prove that you are getting the best price. Consumer group Which? has reported that many Black Friday retail deals were available at the same price or for less at other times. That research covered retail products rather than travel, but the underlying lesson still applies: compare the actual price, not just the advertised saving. See the reported Which? findings.
To find a genuine travel discount:
Check the normal price first. Note the price of your preferred trip before the sale begins.
Compare like for like. Use the same dates, nights, room type, board basis and baggage allowance.
Read the sale conditions. Check eligible destinations, departure dates, room availability and minimum-stay rules.
Check payment terms. A low deposit does not necessarily mean the holiday costs less overall.
Consider your dates carefully. If your dates are fixed, do not rely on a sale that may exclude them.
Compare the final total. Include transfers, baggage, seats and any other charges you need.
For more practical advice, read our guide to Black Friday travel deals.

A good deal is the trip you want at a total price you are comfortable with, not simply the biggest advertised discount.

The Canary Islands, Sharm El Sheikh and Cape Verde are popular warm-weather choices. The Canaries are closer, with daytime highs often in the low to mid-20s Celsius. Sharm El Sheikh and Cape Verde are generally warmer, with average highs around 27–28°C. Which destination is cheapest depends on your dates, airport, accommodation and board basis, so compare the full price.
The Canary Islands are among the warmest Spanish destinations in November, with typical daytime highs around 21–25°C. Mediterranean destinations such as Malta, Cyprus and the Antalya coast are cooler and more changeable, with temperatures often closer to 17–20°C. They can suit sightseeing and relaxed breaks better than guaranteed beach weather.
No. Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote are in the Atlantic Ocean, off north-west Africa. They are often compared with Mediterranean destinations because they are popular alternatives for UK travellers seeking winter sunshine.
Flights on weekdays can sometimes be cheaper than those on Fridays or Sundays, and early-morning or late-night services may cost less. These are patterns rather than guarantees, and prices vary by route and date. Compare several departure days before booking.
There is no guaranteed best booking window. If you need fixed dates, a direct flight or a particular hotel or family room, booking earlier gives you more choice. If you are flexible, monitor prices and book when the full cost suits your budget.
They can be worthwhile if you are flexible about your destination, dates and hotel. Some seats and rooms may be discounted close to departure, but prices can also rise and popular options may sell out. Last-minute travel is usually easier for couples and solo travellers than for families with fixed dates.
Not automatically. All-inclusive can be good value in resort areas such as Sharm El Sheikh or Cape Verde, where you may prefer to have meals and drinks arranged. In Canary Islands resorts with plenty of affordable restaurants, half board or self-catering may cost less. Compare the full total, including baggage and transfers.
